‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ visited Mardela Springs, Maryland earlier today!

Earlier today, September 28, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” traveled to Mardela Springs, Maryland to surprise the Johnson-Goslee family with the door knock that can change lives.

A 16-year-old who inspires all who know him, Wyzhir Johnson-Goslee is smart and charismatic, and dreams of becoming an interior designer and construction worker because he has a knack for design and loves working with his hands. Tragically, on Christmas Eve 2010, Wyzhir suffered an accident that changed his life forever. After months of working diligently with his grandfather on improving areas of their family’s aging home, which is in a constant state of disrepair, the teenager’s coat sleeve was caught in the miter saw – severing his left hand. After more than 10 surgeries, doctors were unable to preserve his hand — but typical of Wyzhir, the loss didn’t diminish his positive outlook. He wanted to return to school right away and was determined to resume his daily life. Wyzhir’s incredible attitude – and the loving support of his mother, Patrice, sister Renee and aunt Sonora – helped him this new challenge head-on, without an ounce of self pity or defeat.

Wyzhir is a firm believer in the importance of giving back to his community and serves as a mentor through a program run by his high school. He is also passionate about the history of his town, and raising money for a local organization that is preserving an African-American school that was built in the 1800s. Simply put, Wyzhir has a heart for others and refuses to be pitied for what happened to him. He has every intention of making the most of the life he’s been given.

The house that Wyzhir has dedicated himself to renovating has been in their family for over 80 years and is in terrible shape. It’s not on an “in ground” foundation, but sits directly on the ground, which means that as the earth settles, the house follows suit. The ceilings are less than six feet high and none of the walls are level, so the home slopes in tiers. And due to insurmountable plumbing issues, there is no working shower or bathtub. So although he was doing his best to make this house a home, Wyzhir’s efforts were (and still are) being expended on a structure that is falling down around him.

The “EM:HE” design team has just seven days to build a brand new home for the Johnson-Goslee family – which not only meets the family’s needs, but exceeds them, with designs to help Wyzhir practice his talents and prepare for his dreams. The Johnson-Goslees have been whisked away on a dream vacation to Santa Barbara, California, while “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” team leader Ty Pennington, designers Michael Moloney, Paige Hemmis, Ed Sanders and Johnny Littlefield, along with local builder The Fusion Companies and community volunteers, build the structure.

The build location is 11500 Old School Road, Mardela Springs, MD 21837.

More about Revenge:

EMILY THORNE HAS RETURNED TO SOUTHAMPTON TO RIGHT THE WRONGS DONE TO HER FAMILY 17 YEARS AGO, ON THE SERIES PREMIERE OF “REVENGE,” WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21 ON THE ABC TELEVISION NETWORK

Emily Thorne (Emily Van Camp) is the newest arrival in the Hamptons. By all appearances, she’s a friendly and sophisticated “girl next door,” but with a dark family history, Emily is anything but what she seems. Seventeen years ago, her father was framed for a crime by neighbors he trusted, and sentenced to life. Emily never saw her father again, and spent her childhood consumed by rage, loss and betrayal. Now she’s returning under an assumed identity with one goal – REVENGE — every social overture a carefully planned chip at the foundation of her sworn enemies. Victoria Grayson (Madeleine Stowe) is the glamorous matriarch of the Grayson family and reigning Queen of the Hamptons who holds a dark secret — her culpability in the events that destroyed Emily’s life. Conrad Grayson (Henry Czerny) is the head of the Grayson family, a man willing to do whatever it takes to slither out of scandalous situations. Daniel Grayson (Josh Bowman) is the Graysons’ son who finds himself unable to resist Emily. Charlotte Grayson (Christa B. Allen), their daughter, fits right in with the “mean girls” of the Hamptons, but is also drawn to boys from the “wrong side of the tracks.” Nolan Ross (Gabriel Mann) shares a link to Emily’s past, her present and her secret. Jack Porter (Nick Wechsler) has spent his life helping his father manage the Stowaway Tavern, and when fate brings Emily into his life, he’s unable to shake a deja vu-like connection to her. Declan Porter (Connor Paolo), Jack’s kid brother, is intrigued by the wealthy world of these elite vacationers and finds a target in Charlotte Grayson. Emily’s closest friend, Ashley Davenport (Ashley Madekwe), is the go-to event planner who hopes to gain entree into Victoria’s good graces and solidify her status among the Hamptonites.

In the premiere episode, “Pilot,” Emily returns to Southampton and rents the seaside home she shared with her father, David Clarke (James Tupper), 17 years ago. With the help of her only friend, Ashley, she sets her sites on her first target, and puts her carefully organized plan in motion. Her focus unexpectedly wavers when she comes across Jack, a friendly face from the past, makes a new romantic connection with the son of her sworn enemy, and is pushed into an uneasy alliance with the only person who knows her secret.

“Revenge” stars Madeleine Stowe (“We Were Soldiers,” “The Last of the Mohicans”) as Victoria Grayson, Emily VanCamp (“Brothers & Sisters,” “Everwood”) as Emily Thorne, Gabriel Mann (“The Bourne Identity”) as Nolan Ross, Henry Czerny (“Mission: Impossible,” “Clear and Present Danger”) as Conrad Grayson, Ashley Madekwe (“Secret Diary of a Call Girl”) as Ashley Davenport, Nick Wechsler (“Roswell”) as Jack Porter, Josh Bowman (“Prowl”) as Daniel Grayson, Christa B. Allen (“13 Going on 30″) as Charlotte Grayson and Connor Paolo (“Gossip Girl”) as Declan Porter.

‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ visited Springfield, Massachusetts on 9-11

On September 11, Ty Pennington and the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” design team traveled to Springfield, Massachusetts to surprise the Walker family with the door knock that can change lives.

On April 6th, 2009, 11-year-old Carl Walker took his own life… forever changing the Walker family. Carl had told his mother, Sirdeaner Walker, about incidents of being bullied at school. Since his tragic death, the family have focused their energies on trying to help others by lobbying for new state and federal laws against bullying.

The Walker house is a living memory of the most horrific night in this family’s life. The 3rd floor is where Carl took his own life, and as a result, the family can’t bear the sadness of that floor. Now Sirdeaner and her two children sleep in the living room, on a couch and two rollaway beds. The grandmother, who also lives with them, can’t access the 2nd floor at all, as the stairs are impossible for her. The house itself is over 100 years old and in serious disrepair, with myriad structural, plumbing and electrical problems.

The “EM:HE” design team has just seven days to build a brand new home for the Walker family, a new facility that meets their current needs and also honors Carl in a positive way without the haunting memories of the 3rd floor. The Walkers have been whisked away on a dream vacation to Hollywood, while “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” team leader Ty Pennington, designers Michael Moloney, Tracy Hutson, Jillian Harris, John Littlefield and local builders N. Riley Construction, Inc. as well as community volunteers, build the house and bring together organizations to “stand together” in the fight against bullying.

The build location is 124 Northampton Ave, Springfield, MA  01109

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is produced by Endemol USA, of Endemol Holding, and executive-produced by Brady Connell & George Verschoor. David Goldberg is Chairman, Endemol North America.

SC Senator Jim DeMint on ABC’s ‘This Week with Christiane Amanpour’

ABC’s ‘This Week with Christiane Amanpour’ airs Sunday mornings @ 8am on WDAY/WDAZ.

POLITICAL ROUNDTABLE:
George Will, ABC News
Clarence Page, columnist, Chicago Tribune
Dana Loesch, editor, Bigjournalism.com, radio talk show host
Jon Karl, senior political correspondent, ABC News

ECONOMIC ROUNDTABLE:
George Will, ABC News
Jared Bernstein, Senior Fellow, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities,
former chief economist to Vice President Joe Biden
Carol Lee, White House correspondent, The Wall Street Journal
Paul Krugman, The New York Times, Nobel Prize winning economist

“THIS WEEK” EXCLUSIVE:    Bob Woodruff, ABC News

On the eve of hosting the top Republican contenders at his Palmetto Freedom Forum, South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint comes to “This Week” and talks with Christiane Amanpour about what he needs to see Monday for a candidate to win his key endorsement. As President Obama prepares to address the nation on jobs, DeMint says he wants to see a plan, not “talking points off a teleprompter.” But what is the Tea Party’s vision for getting America back to work?

The “This Week” political roundtable with George Will, ABC News senior political correspondent Jonathan Karl, conservative radio host Dana Loesch and the Chicago Tribune’s Clarence Page looks at whether the White House and Congress can get past the gridlock that has consumed the capital. And as Sarah Palin is set to deliver a major speech in Iowa this weekend, is the window of opportunity to get into the White House race closing?

As Congress returns from its August recess, the economy is in serious need of repair. The latest report shows no jobs growth last month. Will the President’s jobs address provide a clear plan forward? Nobel Prize-winning economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman, former economic advisor to Vice President Biden Jared Bernstein, and Wall Street Journal White House correspondent Carol Lee join George Will and Amanpour to debate the best course on the rocky road to recovery.

Then, in a “This Week” exclusive, nearly two years after the deadliest attack on U.S. soil since 9/11, the family of Ft. Hood shooter Nidal Hasan break their silence. ABC’s Bob Woodruff talks with Nader Hasan about how his cousin went from having an all-American upbringing to killing his fellow soldiers. Maj. Nidal Hasan has not shown remorse, but Nader wants to make sure something like this never happens again. Woodruff finds out what Hasan’s family is doing to move from this act of murderous rage to promote a movement for non-violence and a patriotic commitment to America.

And, remembering 9/11 10 years on… Amanpour takes an emotional tour of artifacts from the World Trade Center with Christine Ferer, whose husband, Neil Levin, the executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, was killed in the attack. Ferer, who now serves on the 9/11 Memorial board, talks about the importance of the 9/11 Memorial, which will be dedicated next week.

The Walt Disney Company to launch local production of global hit series ‘Desperate Housewives’ in Turkey!

Cast of Turkish Stars to Bring the Award-winning Series’ Characters to Life On Turkey’s No. 1 Free to Air Channel, Kanal D, produced by Medyapim -

Istanbul – (August 31, 2011) – The Walt Disney Company Turkey today announced plans for a local production of the iconic hit series “Desperate Housewives,” bringing a new take on the series’ darkly comedic view of suburbia to Turkish audiences. The series, to be known as “Umutsuz Ev Kadinlari,” will be co-produced by Medyapim and Disney, and is to air on free to air channel Kanal D later this year.

The original “Desperate Housewives” won both the 2005 and 2006 Golden Globe Awards for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, and was created by Marc Cherry and produced by ABC Studios. The series is broadcast in more than 200 territories around the world, where it has been one of the most popular U.S. TV shows in recent history. The ABC Television Network recently announced that this upcoming season – its eighth – will be the final one for the original series.

Since 2006, four different versions have been produced for Latin American audiences. These are “Amas de Casa Desesperadas,” the Argentinean version (in Spanish, for broadcast in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay); the Colombian/Ecuadorian version (in Spanish, broadcast in Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Panama, and also sold to Japan); the U.S. Hispanic version (for broadcast in U.S., Mexico, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic); and “Donas de Casa Desesperadas,” the Brazilian version (in Portuguese, for broadcast in Brazil).

Sinan Ceylan, Country Manager, The Walt Disney Company Turkey, Greece and Cyprus said: “We’re extremely excited to be co-producing a local version of the hit series ‘Desperate Housewives,’ as it offers us the opportunity to connect with Turkish audiences by telling a locally relevant and entertaining story with an all star Turkish cast, using the universal stories and characters created by ABC Studios. This announcement demonstrates our commitment to investing in the Turkish market and supporting the local entertainment industry.”

Fatih Aksoy, CEO, Medyapim, added: “I believe ‘Desperate Housewives’ has one of the best scripts ever written for television. When adapting to Turkish, we are ensuring that we keep up with the level of the original values of the script and will pursue as excellent a production as it has been in the U.S.”

The series’ well-known Turkish cast includes Songul Oden (“Gumus”) as Susan (to be called Suzan), Bennu Yildirimlar as Bree (called Berrin), Evrin Solmaz as Gabrielle (called Yildiz), and Ceyda Duvenci as Lynette (called Leyla). The series will be filmed on location in Istanbul, where a local “Wisteria Lane” has been found. Production will closely follow the format and storylines of the original US version, with a uniquely Turkish flavour.

The Walt Disney Company has leveraged other ABC Studios-produced scripted series for local production across the world; including versions of “Grey’s Anatomy,” “The Golden Girls,” “According to Jim” and “Hope & Faith” in Turkey, local versions of “The Golden Girls” in Russia, Greece, Israel and Spain, and “Brothers & Sisters” and “Grey’s Anatomy” in Colombia.
