In 1990 the group released their self-titled debut album which would go on to sell ten million copies worldwide, go 5x multi-platinum, with three No. 1 singles. Billboard declared them the best selling female group of all time, breaking the record previously set by Motown’s The Supremes. Wilson Phillips was nominated for five Grammy Awards, an American Music Award and won a Billboard Music Award (for “Hold On” and “Release Me,” written by Phillips). Taking a break from the group, Phillips released a successful solo album entitled “Naked & Sacred,” while also filming and starring in the lead role of the television remake of famed Broadway musical “Bye Bye Birdie.” That same year she also married husband and fellow actor William Baldwin. She then took time off to focus on family, and had three children, while also reclaiming herself and becoming a Christian. In 2004 she reunited with Wilson Phillips and they released their 3rd album, “California,” which paid homage to west coast musicians from the 1960s and 1970s. In 2009 Phillips teamed up with singer/songwriter Vaughan Penn to form the Christian pop duo Chynna & Vaughan, and put out an album entitled “One Reason.” Shortly thereafter, Wilson Phillips also released their 1st Christmas album, “Wilson Phillips Christmas in Harmony.” Earlier this year, it was announced that Wilson Phillips would be reuniting again for an album of original music to celebrate their 20 years together as a musical group. At the 2011 World Cup, Solo recorded two shutouts in group play, and then, in what is considered one of the greatest soccer games in history, made a save in a penalty shootout against Brazil in the quarterfinal, helping the Americans advance to the semis. The U.S. reached the final, falling to Japan in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw. Solo was awarded the Adidas Golden Glove by FIFA as the tournament’s top goalkeeper. She was also the starting goalkeeper for the United States in the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where the U.S. women’s team won the gold medal by defeating Brazil 1-0 in extra time, in no small measure due to Solo’s performance as she stopped an energetic Brazilian attack, making save after save. Solo started her Women’s Professional Soccer career playing for Saint Louis Athletica, and was named Goalkeeper of the Year in 2009. Since then she has played for the Atlanta Beat and currently plays for magicJack as the starting goalkeeper, and is a two-time WPS All Star. TRANSGENDER KIDS AND TEENS ARE THE FOCUS OF THIS WEEKS “MY (EXTRA) ORDINARY FAMILY: MY KID IS TRANSGENDER”

“PRIMETIME NIGHTLINE” GOES INSIDE THE WORLD OF TRANSGENDER KIDS AND TEENS IN “MY (EXTRA) ORDINARY FAMILY: MY KID IS TRANSGENDER”

On WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 31 (9:00-10:00 p.m., CT on WDAY/WDAZ), “Primetime Nightline” goes on a remarkable journey inside three families struggling to do right by their transgender kids – one, a biological boy who, at age 10, is now going to school as a girl and who will soon be given medicine to keep from going through male puberty; a 15-year-old biological girl who is taking testosterone to make her more masculine; and a 19-year-old biological male who goes to Mexico to have six surgeries in two hours to make him more feminine. Cynthia McFadden looks at the challenges these individuals face, the decisions they and their parents make and the risks they have to take in order to become the people they feel they were born to be. The program looks at the social, medical and surgical changes and their emotional toll, includes discussions with leading experts, and finds a grim reality — transgender kids often are rejected by their families. One estimate has over 33% of them attempting suicide.

Jackie, a 10-year-old from Ohio, was originally born as Jack. As a toddler, Jack was drawn to his sister’s dolls and clothes and enjoyed dressing up in tutus. Turning 10, with tears in his eyes he told his parents, “I’m a girl on the inside.” Within months, with his parents’ help, Jack became Jackie. She now attends school as a girl, wearing girl’s clothing, heels and makeup. “Primetime Nightline” is there as Jackie navigates her transition and meets relatives for the first time as a girl. Soon she will begin taking puberty blockers, a controversial treatment which will prevent her from going through male puberty.

Nathan is a 15-year-old living in Arizona and was originally born Natalie. Always feeling out of place as a girl, he came home from his first day of pre-school to tell his mother, “I’m a boy.” He started dressing in gender neutral clothing in pre-school. As Natalie grew up, her parents became convinced this wasn’t a phase, and are now helping in the transition. The program follows Natalie as she changes her name to Nathan in court and prepares to start testosterone treatment, which will give her the physical attributes of a boy. Harassed into home schooling, Nathan has no friends his own age. Cynthia McFadden introduces him to his transgender idol, Chaz Bono, who offers him and his family a few words of advice and hope.

Vanessa is 19-years-old living and working in New York City. Vanessa was born as Pierry. At first, her immigrant family had a difficult time accepting their son as their daughter, but now that she has decided on surgery, they have come to support her. But neither the family nor Vanessa can afford the transition, so she has turned to prostitution to pay for the body she feels she should’ve been born with. “Primetime Nightline” goes along with her to Guadalajara, Mexico, where $6500 cash will buy her six surgeries in two hours, as she struggles to become the woman she’s always wanted to be.

“Primetime Nightline” also profiles Kim Petras, a burgeoning pop sensation who became the world’s youngest person to have a complete sex change operation at the age of 16, and interviews Charles Kane, perhaps the only person in the world to have sexual reassignment surgery twice…going from man to woman and back again. Kane regrets his decision to have sexual reassignment surgery, and believes children should not be given these therapies.

ABC News’ “Nightline” is anchored by Cynthia McFadden, Terry Moran and Bill Weir. John Donvan and Juju Chang are correspondents. Jeanmarie Condon is the executive producer.

INSIDE THE TWISTS AND TURNS OF A 25-YEAR-OLD MURDER MYSTERY, ON ABC NEWS’ “20/20,” AIRING this FRIDAY…

The question of who murdered a Fayetteville, North Carolina military wife and two of her young daughters in their own home, leaving only one toddler alive, seemed to be answered with the conviction of a soldier who was a husband and a father himself. Yet years later that verdict was overturned and the original suspect, Tim Hennis, was acquitted. Then, after two decades of freedom, dramatic new evidence points back to Hennis. Elizabeth Vargas reports on a murder mystery that played out over 25 years… and came to a surprise ending in a North Carolina courtroom last year. “20/20″ airs FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 2 (9:00-10:00 p.m., CT on WDAY/WDAZ) on the ABC Television Network.

“20/20″ is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and Chris Cuomo. David Sloan is executive producer.

TEENS IN TROUBLE: CHRIS CUOMO REPORTS ON “20/20,” FRIDAY 8/26 ON ABC…

They started out like any kids, full of hope and dreams – but now they’re homeless and in terrible danger of slipping between the cracks. These kids are not living under a bridge, but under the radar — part of a new under-reported type of homelessness — surfing from couch to couch, from the beds of friends to the beds of strangers.  For over two years, Chris Cuomo and his team have chronicled the terrors and triumphs of four such teenagers, all surviving largely on their own. He updates his eye-opening report, which originally aired in January, on “20/20,” FRIDAY, AUGUST 26 (9:00 to 10:00 p.m., CT on WDAY/WDAZ) on the ABC Television Network.
These children are part of a huge, largely unrecognized national problem. Among industrialized nations, the United States has the largest number of homeless women and children. Among those youth are nearly two million homeless teens. ABC News “20/20” headed to the northwest to find this new generation of teens in trouble in an area of the country that has the highest percentage of homelessness, including a town where one third of its youth are without homes.
George, who ended up living in a tree for a few weeks in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, said: “I felt safer, because on the ground a lot of people could tamper with you. The only bad thing that could happen in a tree is if you fell out.”
Dakota, who often slept at her friend’s house since she says her mom left her in a parking lot when she was just 16, told Cuomo: “I look at my friend and be like, why just I couldn’t be born in her family?… she’s got parents who, like, love her and support her in anything she’ll do.”
What kind of future do these kids have on the horizon? Tune in to find out.
“20/20” is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and Chris Cuomo. David Sloan is executive producer.

“EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION” DESIGN CREW SURPRISES THE DUNNING FAMILY IN LEWES, DELEWARE earlier today!

“EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION” DESIGN CREW SURPRISES THE DUNNING FAMILY IN LEWES, DELEWARE

Earlier today, August 22, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” traveled to Lewes, Delaware to surprise the Dunning family with the door knock that can change lives. Dale Dunning founded “Jusst Sooup” while she was in college. She started off with a crock-pot and a hot plate, making soup for her classmates after theology class. Today Dale, along with husband Ken and son Brooks, wakes up at 2:00 a.m. every day to provide meals at 17 soup kitchens for those in need across the state of Delaware. The Dunning family has firsthand knowledge of what it means to be down on your luck. They have always been known to put others before themselves, and so it was about 10 years ago when Ken inadvertently put the family in financial straits by loaning a friend of theirs money to pay bills. This in turn put the Dunnings in a bind, and forced them into foreclosure.

They’ve since been living in a rental home that is basically a converted storage facility for “Jusst Sooup.” They store massive amounts of food, and their small home can’t contain it all. Their dream is to create the “Jusst Sooup Ranch,” which would be a house the Dunnings could move into and where they could run a large-scale kitchen to feed needy families across the state. It would also be a place that provides shelter, food and support for families in need, helping these families get back on their feet and enabling them to then invite other families to take their place in micro-homes on the property. Dale envisions “Jusst Sooup Ranch” having a garden, crops and a small farm to provide food for their soup kitchen.

The “EM:HE” design team has just seven days to build a brand new home for the Dunning family, one that provides a living area for the family, storage for food and supplies and land for expanding and realizing their dream of supporting multiple families. The Dunning family has been whisked away on a dream vacation, while “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” team leader Ty Pennington, designers Paige Hemmis, Michael Moloney, Sabrina Soto, John Littlefield and local builders Schell Brothers, as well as community volunteers, build the structure.

The build location is 28628 US Highway 9, Milton, Delaware.
